Description
"Madrona by the Bay"
Batik is the process of using wax and
dyes to create designs on fabric. Wax is heated in a tool called a tjanting and then passes thru a copper tube on to the fabric.Where the wax is placed the dye cannot penetrate. I work in layers to create a design.Wax some, dye some. When dye touches the fabric it spreads like water. The wax creates a border that controls where the dye can go. When the piece is finished the wax is removed and the silk is stretched on foamcore using linen tape.
I use only high quality beeswax in my work.
