Mixed Media - Smoked Mulberry Stencil
Description
This is a stencil I carved out of Smoked Mulberry Paper. To give it strength I then lacquered very fine silk netting to the back.
It is used in a Japanese process called Katazome.
But I carve the stencils as an end in itself.
I had the most wonderful opportunity to live and work for the best air taxi company ever in remote Kantishna. A former mining town at the end of the 90 mile dirt road leading into Denali Nat'l park. I spent time kayaking in the gentle waters of this incredibly beautiful, serene lake.
